Emirates Business looks at scent branding

There’s an interesting piece on scent branding in Emirates Business today. They offered some interesting factoids:

  • In 2003, around $30 million was spent on aroma marketing around the world, and by 2010 that figure is expected to reach $220 million.
  • According to some research, somewhere, the scent of roasted chicken is the most universally appetizing aroma in the world.
  • The scent of Crayola crayons is ranked 18th of the 20 most recognizable smells in the world.
  • People can recall aromas with 65 per cent accuracy after one year, while visual recall of photographs is about 50 per cent after three months.
