A New York City entrepeneur has come up with a pleasant-smelling garbage bag that, he claims, will prevent rats from digging through the trash. The bag is infused with the fragrances of eucalyptus, mint and wintergreen. According the the inventor, Joe Dussich, rats and other rodents are irritated by the scent of the bags. It’s too soon to tell how effective the bags will be at controlling rats in New York City, which is reputed to have twice as many rats as people. Tests done by Genesis Labs in Colorado show the bags are anywhere from 60-100 percent effective at deterring rats from ripping them open. Repell-X scented bags are available from the company’s web site. Read more at amNY
